WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies are strings of small size text that a Web site can send, while browsing, to your device (be it a PC, a notebook, a smartphone, a tablet, are usually stored directly on the browser used for browsing) . The same web site that sent them, can then read and record the cookies that are on the same device to obtain various types of information.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN TYPES OF COOKIES?

Cookies are divided mainly into two main categories: cookies “technical” and cookies “profiling”.
Technical cookies are those used for the sole purpose of “carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or as strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide this service “(cfr. art. 122, paragraph 1 of the Privacy Code). They are not used for other purposes and are normally installed by the owner or operator of the website. They can be divided into the navigation cookies or session, which guarantee the normal navigation and use of the website (allowing, for example, to make a purchase or authenticate to access restricted areas); analytics cookies, cookie assimilated technicians when used directly by the site operator to collect information, in aggregate form, the number of users and how they visit the site itself; feature cookies, which allow the user navigation function of a number of selected criteria (eg, language, products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service rendered to it. For the installation of these cookies you do not require the prior consent of users.
Profiling cookies are designed to create profiles on the user and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the same part of surfing the net. Given the considerable invasiveness that such devices may have within the private sphere of the users, the European and Italian legislation requires the user to be properly informed on the use of the same and express their valid consent.
In addition to the type of cookie and can make a distinction based on the duration of the cookie itself:
Session Cookies contain information that is used in your current browser session. These cookies are automatically deleted when you close your browser. Nothing is stored on your computer over the site’s uptime.
Persistent Cookies are used to maintain the information that is used in the period between the accesses another website, or used for technical purposes and to improve navigation on the site. This information allows sites to recognize that you are user or a previous visitor and adapts accordingly. “Persistent” cookies have a life that is secured by the website and which can range from a few minutes to several years.

Account should be taken of the different subject that installs cookies on the user’s terminal, depending on whether it is the same operator of the site the user is visiting (which may be briefly referred to as “publisher”) or a different site that installs cookies through the first (so-called “third parties”).
The First Party Cookies are created and read by the site that created them.
Third Party Cookies are created and readable from external domains to the site and whose data are kept by the third party.
